Fun Finds...Pretty Linens

This week I found some lovely old linens at the thrift store!  This long table runner has a crocheted body and beautiful 8" wide crocheted trim at each end.  I'm so appreciative of the work that goes into a piece like this...

I found this sweet little spring plant at the garden store this week...wish I had saved the tag...campanula?  It can be planted outside as a perennial, too, and will bloom all summer...

Love the color...reminds me that lilacs will soon be in bloom!

The other linen piece was a beautiful square tablecloth...the handwork is like hardanger, but no embroidery...anyone know what this type of needlework is called?

It looks like an incredible amount of fine handwork!

I love this old Czechoslovakian creamer...

the roses are gorgeous...

My last find was this cute little book..."thinking of you...little ways to say you care" by Marjabelle Young Stewart.  Printed in 1992, it is full of thoughtful little gifts and gestures for many occasions!  I love the book...who couldn't use a little help with fun gift ideas?  I checked and this book is still available new and used, very inexpensively, on Barnes and Noble and Amazon, and probably from other sellers, too. (not an ad, I just liked it)

Until next time...wishing you a beautiful spring weekend and maybe some fun finds, too!

  5. You could add Gorgeous Photos to the title of your post. That first photo is just stunning! Great linen finds. The first one sort of looks like daisies. I can't even imagine having the patience to complete a piece like that.

  14. Those linens look gorgeous! I save beautiful hand work from life in a thrift store whenever I can. All of that work deserves respect, not life on a hook after Grama spent all that time making it!

  16. Gaaaahhhh! Gorgeous!!! I saw your post this morning and had to run before I could visit, and you got to me first! That crochet runner was meant for me! How on earth did it end up in YOUR neighborhood?? Haha. That runner is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life! Did you choke when you saw it? I have always loved that leaf pattern on anything I've seen it on. The other one is pretty too, of course. I think it IS hardanger. Looks like a lovely book too. Oh, just enjoy all that!

  27. Hi, I came for a visit from Kris' blog, Simpify. Wow what a find, that crocheted lace edging is amazing. What a lovely post! Both of my parents are from MN and came out here in '53 so all my cousins and extended family is still there in MN. What I remember best about the summers there besides the mosquitos, (hee, hee,) is the most wonderful fresh scent in the air. Have relaxing wknd!

  28. The term "cutwork" comes to mind for your pretty piece of linen. I'll have to Google it when I sign out. And the pitcher with the painted roses is just beautiful.

  32. Linda, like you, I am always amazed and appreciative of the work that must have gone into beautiful linens. You found some gorgeous ones. I love those flowers and my first thought too was "lilacs". We don't have them down here, but when we lived in Toronto we had a beautiful lilac tree in the backyard. Their fragrance is heavenly. Ann
