Simple DIY Wood Letter Board Project Tutorial

We have been in the deep freeze here with a big snowfall, too! It sure makes
you want to stay inside, if you can! So it was a good time to work on a project!
If you're like me you have lots of projects in mind, that you just haven't
taken time to do. I thought I would do one of those!

I have long wanted to do a project with the wood calendar boards
you see all the time at the thrift store! There are many great
inspiration projects on Pinterest. I've linked my Pinterest Signs board
for your convenience, so you can see some of them.

I found these thrift store boards, just waiting to be transformed.

First you dismantle the pieces you don't want on the board.

You can make them look however you want...any color.
I went with painting a black and wood board, and a solid white board.
That way you can use them in different decors and in different ways.

These could easily be used as regular letter boards...using whatever letters you have on hand...game letters (i.e. Scrabble, anagrams) hardware store letters, etc.
I have a large array of letters from my Junk Bonanza selling days,
and love using them in projects.  Or you could simply print out words
on cardstock from your printer, and slide them in the slots!

I decided to use the black and wood board in a more permanent way...
a Birthday Board!  We have a large family, and I wanted to have
a very visible monthly reminder of birthday dates.

I glued some letters at the top to spell out "Birthday Fun" and used letters to abbreviate January.  Then the slots below can display family members
names and day.  I can change it out for each month.

I love how it looks!

The second board will be used for seasonal decoration, and letterboard use.  You can find many letterboard sayings on my Letterboard Fun Pinterest board!

I decided to play around with some boards for Valentine's Day!
The original display hooks were kept on this board,
as I figured they would come in handy...

One hint I can give you...some of the boards have wider letter channels.  I simply took some wood dowel pieces and painted them white and set them in the channels.  That way I could use some smaller letters.

I know I'll have fun with these boards all year long!
They would be fun gifts to make, too!
