Fun Finds and This and That

Here we are in the middle of October already and it has been feeling more like early winter than fall. Cold temperatures...the northern half of Minnesota has had several snowfalls already.  We have had rain, but I certainly am not complaining, with so many of you dealing with Hurricane Michael's wrath! The fall colors are reaching peak, with many leaves still to turn.  We try to get out for some of each day to experience it, even in the rain, as it will soon be gone.

We have donated lots of stuff this past week, which of course, leads to going inside at least once to see if there is something for me.  So, with that being said...I have just a few little and not-so-little fun thrift store finds to share with you!

The first is the not-so-little item.
I found this 32" wood dough bowl for $3.00.

It is a newer reproduction, but has nice details and carving marks.
I think it will be wonderful as a centerpiece or on a mantel.

It was a little shiny for my taste, so I gave it a whitewash of watered down craft paint, and then wiped off nearly all of the white.  It gave it more of an aged look and highlighted all the details of the wood.

Then, my daughter surprised me with me three little
pumpkins she crocheted...aren't they cute?
I love the colors, ribbed details, and twisted stems.

They are at home in the dough bowl now.

My next find was an English candy tin...this one had a pattern
I haven't found before and was in very nice condition...$1.50

The last item I bought was this lovely old
1872 English Ridgways Indus footed bowl.

And who could resist this?

Even with its cracks, crazing, and discoloration...it has found a home with me. $2.25. (And that is why I love thrifting)

Before I close...I wanted to share a great book I bought this week, too.

I am sure many of you have already discovered this wonderful book! I like so many styles and can be all over the place with my decor.  But this book is of a style closest to my heart, and has helped me make more decisions about where I want to go with our home...what to keep, what will go.  It is a big book, full of beautiful photos and I thought I would share it with you today!  I've included my Amazon affiliate link for your convenience, if you would like to get a copy, too.  It's also in my Itsy Bits And Pieces Amazon Shop, where I share lots of great decor items!

Until next time...

  2. That first pic of fall in Minnesota is gorgeous. I have been in Minnesota in spring and summer, but never in fall.

I just won that book in a giveaway and can't wait to sit down and read it, but I love what I have seen in flipping through the pages.

  4. What great finds! I love the wooden bowl. I have a very large dough bowl I inherited. It was hand carved by my great grandfather in the 1860's for his bride. My mother would tell me when she was a little girl & would go to their house grandma always had dough rising in the bowl.

I alos love the footed bowl, beautiful colors & pattern.

  8. That bowl is amazing!!! I get sort of teary eyed when I saw it was someone's great great aunt's AND it ended up in a thrift store! Glad you're loving the weather. The weather turned from the 80's to the 30's so quickly here it sort of shocked my system!

  10. Fabulous finds! I laughed out loud about donating leading to going inside to look for more. Must find a little reward for purging!

  11. Our fall has been a lot like yours - more like winter temps! We even had some snow flurries mixed in with rain on Saturday. The beautiful fall weather we usually have where it's usually in the 60's for awhile, and even the low 70's, did not exist this year. Your thrifting finds are always amazing. I haven't been in the thrift stores in months - there's never anything good in mine anymore. It's mostly junk now. And I'm trying so hard to get rid of stuff, not bring more in. My basement area where I keep all my decor is a disaster. I've run out of shelving room and stuff is now piled on the floor! A clean-out project for me this winter, for sure.
