Changing Things Up...

If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you know how much fun I have changing up the hutch in my dining area.  This space is attached to our kitchen, separated by a breakfast bar.  I've always loved how pretty the hutch is, but for a long time I have been thinking of making the space more functional...and more a part of the kitchen...like something of a butler's pantry area.  I have always used the drawers to hold linens, flatware, etc.,
but the shelves have always been used more for decoration.

We have an eating area in our sunporch where the family gathers most of the year, so I can use this as more of an eat-in kitchen space.  So I am making a fundamental change and bringing this area in as additional kitchen space.

As you can see, I brought in many of my glass canisters,
freeing up cabinet space in the kitchen...

I added a wine/bottle rack, and a footed milk glass fruit bowl...it is actually an old piece from the 1880s.

I added my onion storage basket and a 2-tier rack, that while not in use, will hold kitchen towels and napkins...

A few cookbooks, cups, and extra salt and pepper shakers are there now, too....right at hand when I need them...

Platters, a tureen, candlesticks, and a glass pitcher round out the new hutchtop.  It's a work-in-progress, as I see what will work best, but I am happy with the new functional use of the piece!

I plan to continue to bring more of this area into the kitchen space, too!

Until next time...

  2. Very pretty and functional, Linda! It looks great. I love the glass canisters. Your gluten free flour looks much nicer than mine in its Tupperware container. : ) This is such a pretty hutch and I wish I had room for a piece like that here. Of course, I'd probably just have mine be decorative with plates and such, but it is nice that it is big enough to really provide some function for you, too.

  3. Very nice and gives you great storage space! The glass containers are great, but I found a great "pink" set, and I'm so not a pink girl, but think that's changing! It's great to have your dining area out in the sun-room! What brand? do you use for your GF flour? I've been using Pamela's.

  4. Hi Linda, I love your glass canisters - so nice to have things right where you can see them, all labeled so nicely! I love all the little details here - your little piggy and wire basket with white cups caught my eye. It all looks so nice. I received my wonderful treasures from your Etsy shop. Can't wait to do a post about them! Hugs xo Karen
