All Over the Map...A VERY Simple Project...

You know I love a simple project!  I love re-doing a thrift store find into something I can use in my home!  This one is all over the map...

Out thrifting this week, I found this newer hinged wood box.
I wasn't a great fan of the stripes...

But the crackled lid was more to my liking.  A little makeover was in order!  You can find this type of box, unfinished in the craft stores, too.

I grabbed some vintage 40's era atlas maps I had in my STUFF... you could use any map.  I chose these for their coloring...lots of blue and a POP of orange.

I cut four strips to cover the outside panels of the box. On the two end strips I added a tiny amount, so they would slightly wrap around the front and back panels,
so there would be total coverage.

I used some decoupage medium on the backs on the papers and applied them to the box.  I smoothed them into place, and pressed down bubbles with my hands and a small brayer.  I didn't coat over the fronts of the papers, as I wanted more of a smooth matte look.

I love the new look of the box...

AND its new life...

Until next time...

  13. Cute!
Great idea and love the maps.
I happen to be a collector of little boxes. Whenever I seen them at the thrift store or yard sales...I can't help but snatch them up.
Crazy thing? I only just started using them for storage around the house. I used to just collect. But now I use them AND DISPLAY THEM at the same time. :)
