A Simple Little Re-Do...

Recently, I found this plain memo board at the thrift store.  I decided to would leave the wood unpainted, as I thought it had a great farmhouse look...

I was lucky enough to find a piece that already had a great burlap covering!  It seems to be a board like homasote underneath, but you could easily take any cork bulletin board you find...wrap and staple it with burlap, or use spray adhesive as this one has, to cover it.

I decided to make a simple black French stripe.

I measured the first line in two places to get the tape straight, but eyeballed it after that, making the pattern below.  You can use the tape to create any pattern you want.  I also used some tape along the frame where the painted lines would end to, protect the wood from paint.  Using a small foam brush and black craft paint, I dry brushed paint into the spaces that would create the lines...

Remove the tape, and you have a great looking rustic design...

There are so many ways to use a board like this...a memo or inspiration board...

but it's also fun to use as a backing for wreaths, like this fun egg wreath, or even other artwork...

I think this will be fun to play with!
I am joining

Until next time...

  6. Linda you really scored big at the thrift store! (Aren't thrift stores great? I love treasure hunting there) And it amazing what a little stripe can do, I love it. Thanks for reminding me how easy it is to apply craft paint to spruce things up.

  25. I was going to get some of those speckled eggs last year, now here it is this year and I still haven't picked any up. I have not tried painting on burlap either. By the time I get around to either of those things they will be out of fashion.
