Summer's End...

Labor Day has always seemed like the end of summer to me.  We spent the weekend at the lake enjoying the last of the summer family fun for the year.  It's always a little bittersweet, remembering all of the special times and gatherings we were blessed to share.  The weather was cool with some rain, and the sky was beautiful...

Soon, we'll be pulling in the docks to prepare for winter...but not quite yet...the weather was still warm enough for a little swimming and beach fun.

The lake is surrounded by huge oak trees...

 And acorns are falling EVERYWHERE...

This morning, back at home, the school buses are rumbling through the neighborhood picking up children for the first day of school...a yearly ritual that always signifies the start of fall to me, too.  I'm looking forward to cool and colorful days ahead!
How about you?

Until next time...

  1. I am looking forward to Fall, too, Linda, but would like to skip right over Winter! I have been hearing (non-stop) that the farmers almanac is predicting the same horrible winter we had last year for this year. Something I am not looking forward to, especially since I am working outside of the home again.

  2. Fall or Autumn here in the UK is my favourite season, love the colours and the crisp air. Seeing scholars go back to school reminds me that my youngest, our son is off to college and no longer needs prodding to get up for school! Have a great week! Sharon

  4. Linda.
Love the last pictures at your lake. Ohhhhhh I do not want to let go of summer. I know fall is coming and I love fall I just know what follows that and I am not looking forward to another winter here in the midwest like last year. So I am savoring every minute of summer that I can. Have a great week.

  8. Your lake is beautiful! I can see why you would want to eek out every last minute! I love fall, I really do. It just seems like we didn't have enough summer. And it was such a pleasant one, sad to see it end.

  9. I can see why you aren't in a hurry to pack things up at the lake, Linda. It looks like a beautiful and peaceful spot to spend time with family. I left early for work this morning to avoid the school bus delays on my route. The leaves are just starting to change here and I hope to get out on the water to enjoy the season in the upcoming weeks. Let's hope for a nice long autumn!

  10. A lovely end to your summer! Love that shot of the sky with the blue and turquoise. I grew up on a lake and I miss it so. Your photos bring back the sweet memories of summers spent swimming and boating and playing in the sand. But I do love autumn - my favorite season. xo Karen

  11. I am looking forward to Fall too, Linda. Your lake area looks beautiful. I bet it is pretty dressed with Autumn.
I miss the oak trees. We don't have any here, and very few maples this far North either.
