A Simple Little Re-Do...

  
You might remember this sign from my recent entryway reveal post!  It is a newly made piece I purchased, and has a crisp finish.  I recently saw a similar sign on Pinterest which had a distressed finish, and I liked it so much better that way!  So out came a sanding block to take the paint down, and a wash of watered down taupe/grey paint...

 You can see the finish is much less solid now.  I washed the paint over the surface...

 and removed as much excess paint as I wanted, while taking the white color down.

 I repeated the process in some areas, for even more of an aged look.

 

 I love how it turned out...more in keeping with our home!

Fun Garage Sale Finds...

Garage sale season is here and I went to a really great one!  The lady holding the sale had lived on the SW coast of England for 7 years and had gathered many goodies while there.  She was parting with some of them in her sale!  Look at this wonderful old stoneware platter!  I don't mind chips and crazing...it's just life experience to me!  This old English beauty is from Hampson & Broadhurst circa 1850...

This pretty Johnson Brothers brown transferware platter has an unusual shape...

and look at this stoneware footed cake stand!  It appears to be quite old...I've not seen one like it and haven't been able to find out much about it...

These double handled cups were used for bouillion.  They are Winkle and Co Whieldon Ware pieces circa 1925.

I found some other goodies, too...some fun shaving brushes and cups...

and some old flower frogs with some little Japanese Bonsai scissors and wire.

This old 1911 chromolithograph has been newly re-framed...I love the graphics!

This nice sized old Czech Art Deco art glass light shade is really special!  It has four different colors and the original hooks and chains!  I am wondering if it is end-of-the-day glass, where the leftover colors were used in a piece at workday's end?

The big neighborhood sales start this weekend!  Can't wait!

and vintage garden fencing makes a great valance when decorated with ribbons.

This mirror has fun embellishment...

and embroidery hoops make fun frames and memo boards!

An old pie safe door becomes a magnet board...

and vintage spools are used as drawer pulls!

More garden fencing for the light shade...such a cute room!

Next up...the master bedroom...

The headboard is made from a painting and a garden trellis.

Vintage frames and twig wall hooks make a great jewelry organizer...

and look at this fun desk!  The top is salvaged wood with old letters and postcards under glass.

The legs are wonderful old sawhorses...

I love these old windows, mirrored, with vintage photos...

and these charming floral pins used as tie backs!

A fireplace screen holds vintage photos.

This great garden orb makes a wonderful, trendy light fixture!

One of my favorite ideas in the house was this ladder photo display...I want to make one of these!

The boy's bedroom is a whimsical change of pace...a grass mat path leads the way...

to this fun jungle-like hideaway! 

The last room is called the "inspiration den".  These vintage windows make a fun bulletin board...

as does this frame with layered burlap interior!

 
The little coin purses serve as whimsical storage containers...
