Sheet Music Fun...

Last week I found a nice lot of vintage sheet music!  I really love this type...no artwork on the covers...and done in black type on off-white.  Such fun titles...

And I love all the decorative flourishes and different fonts used on each piece... and of course the sheet music!

I love using these for so many projects and collage...

A Simple Project...

Recently I found this new metal sign in a thrift store and decided to use it as the base for a sign for my kitchen!  I painted it with white paint...nothing perfect about it...

and penciled on the letters "EAT".  You can freehand it, transfer letters, or what I did~ just trace around some large letters...

I filled the letters in with black paint, and distressed with a sanding block when the paint was dry.  I'm not great at sign painting or have much of a steady hand, so distressing really helps!  I used a damp napkin to pull a little paint off one side of the letters as a drop shadow...

Finally, I mixed a few drops of Burnt Umber craft paint into some decoupage medium and painted it on to seal the piece, and add some depth and patina.
,

I hung it above a door in the kitchen...

I've been inspired by so many of you to look at objects I find, and  transform them!

A Little Bit of Spring...

Well, here in Minnesota we have some snow on the ground with the promise of more to come...but my mind is thinking of Spring!  I was tired of all the red in my hutch and decided some yellow and green would bring a little feeling of spring to our home!

I brought in old books with pretty floral covers,

pretty and whimsical pieces...

The yellow makes me smile...

I think this vintage appliqued daffodil piece is so sweet...

My sweet tole lilies...

This beautiful covered carnival glass dish has such beautiful golden lustre~ it was my husband's mother's...

Funny how changing things up, makes the whole house feel more like spring!  Next, I think it's time to head to the garden store for some new flowering house plants!

Fun Finds...

Aren't those little spools eye candy?  I did a little antiquing and thrifting this week and thought I'd share some of the goodies!  I found this great old box of spools at Haupt Antiek Market.  Deb travels Europe for goodies, and I love this one!

The graphics are so great!

Another antiquing find this week was this sweet little Italian tole candle holder...I love its chippy shabby look...

and the faded lilies...  It's in my White Lilac Cottage etsy shop, if you are interested!

I love this gorgeous antiquing find~ a vintage French-style tole bouillotte lamp!

  From its beautiful wreath finial...

hand painted decoration,

reticulated top edge, and chippy patina...it's a beauty!  Pieces like this have a way of ending up in my own house...

I was really attracted to this old piano leg!  I love the styling and the wonderful old patina...

Beautiful alligatoring...

I had some fun thrift store finds, too!  This vintage candy tin from Dublin, Ireland has great graphics and the shamrock decorated lid edge is perfect for St. Patrick's Day!

Old books are always a favorite thrift store find!  These are leatherbound with great covers...

"A Tale of Two Cities" by Dickens...

Lots of fun finds this week, and I'll be adding new items into all three of my etsy shops, so hope you'll stop by- there are links on my sidebar!
