A Special Simple Project...

For Christmas, I decided to send my parents a special gift.  They often say, " I love you..." with the response, "I love you more."  With this in mind, I decided to make a sign for their room.   Using the computer to type out a pattern...I chose the Engravers MT font...I printed it out in pieces sized to fit the sign.  You could make your own sign, but I picked up a vintage wood sign at the thrift store that was the shape I wanted (wish I had taken a photo of the before...really awful), and primed and painted over it.  I used Behr's Swiss Coffee.

I laid the pattern out and taped it on the newspaper.  The newspaper will serve as your transfer paper...

When you place the pattern on the sign, just draw over the letters to transfer the pattern...

I left the edge unpainted, and hand painted the letters with black acrylic craft paint.  Nothing perfect about it, but it's made with love...

My parents loved it! I think we need one in our home, too!

Until next time...

  4. Your gift is lovely . . . who would have thought that newspaper would work as transfer paper. I am so very impressed. I'm always trying to find ways to reuse and save money . . . this is perfect. Now every-time I get newsprint on my hands, I'll remember that I can benefit from this messy paper :) This idea is pure genius :)
    Thank you for sharing.

  5. What a sweet (and complete) gift. You couldn't have said it any better. Great idea about the newspaper. I have been going over the back of my letters with a pencil and then transferring that way. You have just saved me some work- xo Diana

  7. Oh... how sweet. We grew up hearing my parents say "Me Too,You." after the "I love you"... I think I need a
"Me Too,you" sign. certainly would make a sweet conversation starter.

    in texting today...it would read...
    "me 2 U"...EVEN CUTER!

HOPE YOU HAD A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND have a Happy New year...thanks for stopping by and wishing us the same. Pat

  13. What an excellent idea, when I first saw the photo, I thought it was a tea tray...which is another great idea! Not sure how the transfer works? Do you have you wet the back of the newspaper in order for it to transfer?

    1. When you draw over the pattern, the newsprint ink transfers lightly onto the sign surface, like carbon or transfer paper would...
