My husband Larry and I have taken advantage of the unusually warm weather in Minnesota to get our outdoor Christmas decorating done this week! Seems early, but when cold weather and snowstorms can hit at any time, it really is a simple pleasure to get the decorating done when it isn't 20 degrees outside! Fifty degrees may seem cold to some of you, but in November, in Minnesota its great! We hung lots of white lights and we always decorate the front entry- this year I did a large arrangement of greens. I bought some spruce tops and one large piece of curly willow, I cut dogwood branches in our yard, and picked up some cedar, pine, and yew cuttings at the compost site when we dropped off our fall leaves. It looks so pretty and festive! I put out one of my old sleds, some ice skates and a sign I painted for a nice holiday vignette. Now all we need is some snow- I've always thought it is the best decoration!

I have a thing for letters, numbers, and graphic pieces- and had fun working with them again today! You've probably seen the Scrabble trays with letters that everyone is having fun with right now- I enjoy putting a twist on them by mixing up the fonts, letter sizes and colors- for a more whimsical, funky look. I am making holiday pieces for etsy right now. I also used a little rusty old wheel as a base for a bottle brush tree- I used a vintage typewriter asterisk key for the star and added the letters "JOY". Picture frames and mirrors haven't escaped my glue gun either...

Liana had a day off work today, so thought we'd hit a couple of thrift shops and hunt for vintage Christmas goodies! With Halloween done, the stores are busy putting out Christmas items. We found three great matching red felt stockings with great graphics and glittered cuffs with hand written names- Momma, Roy, and Mary! We also found a smaller very charming faded child's felt stocking. A glittered Christmas tree candle, a wonderful old Santa ornament, and three rolls of vintage ribbon rounded out the holiday finds! There were other good finds today- some old books, a great 1941 Champion bowling belt buckle, a Niagara Falls souvenir, a CreamTop dairy spoon, and Scrabble letters! It is always a great way to spend the day, and Liana and I enjoy having girl time, too!
